Visiting a new city is so exciting, and as a foodie, my favorite part of going to any city is definitely trying local restaurants! And since I’m always eager to share my food recommendations for people when they travel to new cities, what better way to do so than with a blog post series?!
To kick off my series, I’m sharing some of my favorite Houston eats. And although Houston isn’t new to me, it’s no doubt the best place to start since there’s always a new restaurant I want to try when I go back to visit!
Brunch: Urban Eats
Located in the hustle and bustle of the Heights, Urban Eats is the perfect place to grab some gourmet comfort food that is not only delicious but also affordable. I spent about 2 hours of my Saturday here with my family, sipping cocktails and chowing down on a variety of dishes while enjoying the spacious patio. Everything we got was out of this world, but if I had to choose a favorite, it was definitely their award-winning 3 Pig Truffled Mac & Cheese!
So, what all did we get? While we all shared the 3 Pig Truffled Mac & Cheese (smoky diced bacon, pancetta, honey ham & white truffle oil), we also got our own meals –
I enjoyed the Brasserie Benedict (biscuit, short rib, fried egg, creamy brie & smoked paprika bearnaise).
Sam and my dad enjoyed another award-winning dish – Cowboy Sliders (sesame roll, 44 farms burger, cheddar, bacon, onion strings & bbq sauce).
Pam, my stepmom, enjoyed The Urban Classic sliders (toasted brioche roll, 44 farms beef burger, american cheese, lettuce, tomato, white onion, dill pickles, seeded mustard & mayo).
And last but certainly not least, my cousin Haley had the Honey Butter Fried Chicken Biscuit (split & stuffed w/fried chicken tenders, finished w/spicy tx honey & bacon jam).
As for the drinks, I definitely recommend getting a Bellini or Mimosa, but suggest you steer clear of their Bloody Mary (not the best).
Dinner: Caminos De Michoacan
If you want some delicious birria, then you HAVE to go here. Located in a small shopping strip in Stafford, the birriadillas are sure to satisfy your birria cravings and have you wishing you could eat more! I’m not going to lie, this is actually my second time going, so although it technically isn’t new to me, I couldn’t dare not tell you about it!
Their regular tacos are also to die for, and they have some amazing aguas frescas (pro tip – add chamoy!).
If you have any doubts about where you should get birria, I promise you won’t regret going here. Even if you’re in North Houston, it’s definitely worth the drive.
Going Out – Wicklow Heights
Back in the Heights is my new favorite bar in Houston, Wicklow Heights! After a long day, Sam and I went to Wicklow with my cousin Haley, where we sat on the patio and hung out for several hours and enjoyed each other’s company. The atmosphere is so chill and relaxed, perfect for a low-key night at the bar.
The drinks, although a tad bit pricey, were so good. I tried their margarita, French 75, and strawberry mule – all great choices, but my favorite was by far the strawberry mule! I should also mention that their patio is dog friendly, and they have Taco Tuesday and Wednesday steak night every week!
Along with the drinks, we enjoyed some good grub from the on-site food truck, Eaty Mo Chicken & Waffles. I got their waffle burger, which was honestly so huge that two people could share it! Sam enjoyed their mango habanero chicken and waffles, and all three of us inhaled their french fries.
Well, there you have it! All the foodie-approved places I ate while I visited Houston for a weekend. If you live there or ever find yourself visiting, make sure you add these places to your food bucket list (what, you don’t have one of those?). Stay tuned for which city I visit next!
Caminos de Michoacán aguas frescas with the chamoy are amazing. Thanks for recommending this place very affordable too!
